Brian Head, Utah, located at 10,000 feet above sea level, is a perfect summer getaway thanks to extensive summer outdoor family activities. Fill your day with hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, star gazing, photography, trout and fly-fishing or just take time to rest and meditate.

Outdoor attractions — such as the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Dixie National Forest, Cedar Breaks National Monument and Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks — are within a few minutes to a few hours away. You can pick which places to visit, depending on your wants and needs.

For those who love skiing, Brian Head has countless slopes. Or rent ATVs, off-the-road vehicles or electric-powered mountain bikes by the hour or day from Utah ATV Rentals.

Cedar City, Utah, is within an hour of Brian Head and runs the Shakespeare Festival from June to October. Enjoy many different forms of live performances on the Southern Utah University campus. We viewed “The Sound of Music,” which was so good. One day at the festival wasn’t enough. You can spend several days roaming and enjoying the activities, including evening cultural events.

Zev, grandson of Hilton Grand Vacations Owner Bruce, holding a fish while fishing in Brian Head, Utah

Our 16-year-old grandson, Zev, had never been fishing before our vacation. While in Cedar City, I casually conversed with a gentleman buying loads of fishing goods. It turns out the shopper, Jim, owned a resort on Lake Panguitch. Jim spent five hours with our grandson, teaching him the basics of fishing on his dock and on one of his many boats.

They caught 12 rainbow trout and released eight; in the final hour, Jim taught Zev how to clean fish. One day fishing with Jim changed my grandson’s life and made us heroes. This experience added so much pleasure to our family vacation.

The beauty of the Brian Head area is remarkable, with many choices and activities to explore during your stay.
