Usually, beach access, a great pool and the shining sun are our top criteria for choosing Hilton Grand Vacations destinations. But lately, we've been looking for vacation destinations with an opportunity to golf.
Can't-miss Golf Vacation Destinations
Hawaii comes to mind for sure as a great golf vacation destination. Of course, Florida also has its fair share of great courses. But don't overlook Myrtle Beach, home to three Hilton Grand Vacations Clubs located minutes from easy and challenging courses, depending on your skill level.
When my son Aidan recently decided to take up golf, I was more than thrilled to start adding time on the green to our vacation itineraries, as I've been playing for years, and my wife doesn't.
So, here are a few tips on incorporating a few rounds into golf your family vacation.
How To Prepare for a Hilton Grand Vacations-style Golf Vacation
1. Call the Hilton Grand Vacations Club ahead of your trip and get the list of recommended courses.
Myrtle Beach and Hawaii have discounted greens fees and club rental, so you don't necessarily need to bring your clubs along and incur added baggage costs.
2. Call the course you've got your eye on and confirm availability and dress code — some might require a collared shirt to play.
3. Book your tee times before arrival. This extra planning affords you the best chance to play when you want. Consider the day that works best for your vacation and the time of day you want to play.
4. If you're Elite status with Hilton Grand Vacations, check out the Lugless or Luggage forward benefits if you plan on bringing your clubs. It can be much less expensive than the airline fees and eliminates the hassle of carrying them or renting larger cars to accommodate the added baggage.
6. Pack the necessities in your luggage, and you should have almost everything you need for a great round or two.
Here's a golf-essentials packing list:
- Golf shoes
- Ball markers
- Golf tees
- Divot repairs tool
- Golf glove
- A few sleeves of balls (You'll be grateful when you avoid the extra fees at the course.)
- Golf towel
7. When you’ve done the above, check your ego at the door, forget about your handicap (remember it's a course you probably haven't played before) and prepare to create some great memories, bonding with family and friends.
8. Finally, don't forget about the annual Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, an ideal golf vacation for the whole crew.
